Where Compounding Earns Its Place
Concentrations beyond over-the-counter
Over-the-counter topical products are manufactured at fixed strengths. Your prescriber can order a different concentration for a named patient.
Several actives in one vehicle
Two or more actives combined into a single topical preparation, where no commercial product offers that combination.
Topical routes for oral-only actives
Some actives are manufactured only as oral products. Where your prescriber has documented a clinical need for a topical route, we can prepare one.

A Note on Compounded Topical Finasteride
In April 2025 the FDA issued an alert to health care providers, compounders and consumers about compounded topical finasteride products. There are no FDA-approved topical products containing finasteride, alone or in combination. The alert notes that absorption through the skin into the bloodstream is expected, and describes adverse event reports consistent with those reported for approved oral finasteride products, including erectile dysfunction, anxiety, suicidal ideation, brain fog, depression, fatigue, insomnia, decreased libido and testicular pain. Most of those reports state the effects persisted after the product was stopped.
We prepare topical finasteride only against a patient-specific prescription. The decision to prescribe it, and the risk conversation with the patient, belong to your provider. We will not represent compounded topical finasteride to your patients as carrying lower risk than an approved oral product, and we would ask that your own materials do not either. Read the FDA alert
What We Will Not Compound, and Why

Anything that is essentially a copy of a commercial product
A 503A pharmacy cannot compound a preparation that is essentially a copy of a commercially available drug. Where a commercial version already exists in the strength and form your prescriber wants, that prescription should go to a wholesaler or retail pharmacy, not to us.

How 503A Fulfillment Works
Every preparation is compounded against an individual prescription written by your provider for a named patient.
Where a commercial version of a drug exists, your prescriber can still order a compounded preparation when there is a documented clinical need, such as a strength that is not manufactured, a combination that is not sold, or a route that is not commercially available.
Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved. FDA approval refers to commercially manufactured products, not to anything we compound.
